The Mexico 50 Peso Gold Coin, also known as "The Centenario," is a large gold bullion coin originally minted in 1921 to mark the 100th anniversary of Mexicoβs independence from Spain. Although it has a 50 pesos face value, it was never meant for use as currencyβthis value is purely symbolic and doesnβt reflect its gold worth.
The Centenario is composed of 37.5 grams (1.2057 troy ounces) of gold, with a 90% gold and 10% copper alloy, and measures 37mm in diameter. It was produced from 1921-1931 and then again from 1944-1947, with later restrikes from 1949-1972 all bearing the 1947 date
