About The Stones:
Ammolite is one of the rarest organic gemstones in the world, found almost exclusively along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada, and formed from the fossilized shells of ammonites — ancient marine cephalopods that lived over 70 million years ago. The iridescent color play visible on this stone — a vivid mosaic of red, orange, and green that shifts and intensifies with movement and light — is caused by light interference within the thin layers of aragonite that make up the shell, a phenomenon similar to that seen in fine opals but entirely unique to ammolite. This particular specimen displays the most prized color combination in ammolite — red and green — which gemologists and collectors recognize as the highest quality color grade.
